Halifax County Jail Roster Overview

The jail roster does not require the same fields as a court portal. It is organized around tabs, each built for a different search task. A name search finds matching inmates. A charge search finds entries tied to charge wording. A days search reviews bookings or releases over a recent period. The research captured the public interface rather than a personal inmate profile.

What Halifax County Inmate Records Show

The research did not reproduce a live personal inmate profile. That choice avoids republishing personal jail data from a current detainee. The official interface confirms the public search routes, and the Detention Center FAQ confirms that charge and bond information may be obtained by phone with the inmate's full name. Treat the table below as a careful inventory of fields that may be available through official jail or court channels, not a promise that every roster entry shows each field.

Halifax County Detention Center

The Halifax County Detention Center is at the same Ferrell Lane complex as the Sheriff's Office. The FAQ lists the general phone, fax, medical extension, administration extension, Chief Jailer extension, and Captain's Office extension. Official jail capacity was not located in the research, so no capacity number is stated here. Detention command staff oversee jail operations, inmate care, housing, feeding, clothing, medical care, recreation, safety, inspections, and a staff of more than 32 employees.

Use the FAQ before sending mail, funds, medication, or books because the facility can reject items that do not meet jail rules.

Booking and Court Status

Booking information and court information are related, but they are not the same record. The jail may show that a person is in custody and list charge wording or bond information. The court file shows filed charges, hearing dates, orders, disposition, and sentence if the prosecution moves forward. A person may also move between jail, release, court, probation, or state custody, which can make a roster result stale.

Halifax County Inmate Visitation Rules

Halifax County Detention Center does not provide face-to-face visitation. Video visits are handled through HomeWAV. On-site video visitation is free with a HomeWAV account, but visits must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance. Visitors choose an available green time and wait for the inmate to accept or decline the request. Lobby visitors should arrive 10 minutes early because late arrival does not extend the appointment.

Mail and Phone for Halifax County Inmates

Mail should be addressed to the inmate's name at PO Box 36, Halifax, NC 27839, and must show a return name and address. Reading material must come from a publisher, bookstore, or retail vendor, and only softcover books are accepted. Photos are limited to five, with a maximum size of 5 by 7. Greeting cards are photocopied for the inmate, and the original is placed in property.

Paytel Communications provides phone service. Inmates make collect calls from cell phones, and staff do not relay messages. For medication, call Medical at 252-583-3081 ext. 4448. The facility accepts only prescription medication in the pharmacy container.

Commissary and Halifax County Inmate Funds

Inmate deposits can be made at the kiosk in the Sheriff's Office lobby. The kiosk is available 24 hours and deposits post immediately. Mail deposits must be USPS money orders payable to the inmate and mailed to the inmate at PO Box 36.

Confirm the inmate's custody status before placing an outside order because release or transfer can affect delivery.

State Inmate Records and Notifications

County jail custody is separate from state correction records. The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction Offender Public Information Search covers state prison, probation, parole, and historical state data back to 1972, but it does not include county jail information. NC SAVAN and VINELink are notification resources for victims and other approved users who need custody or case updates.

Use the NC SBI sex offender registry only for registry information. The sheriff notes that registry information is for public protection and that misuse can lead to prosecution. It is not a jail roster and should not be used to infer current Halifax County custody.
